Episode 62: From Life of the Party to Truly Enjoying Life: Jasmine Roger’s Awakening

Ray sits down with Jasmine Rogers, whose journey to becoming two years sober from alcohol, has been anything but straightforward. The duo explores what it truly means to live authentically — the challenges, the triumphs, and the unexpected moments of growth. This is Jasmine’s second time in sobriety. Her first lasted a year, and then when she thought she was “cured,” she relapsed even worse. The staying factor is she always remembered the clarity sobriety gave her. So she started seeing a therapist, was encouraged to go to AA. Raising her son gave her a higher purpose to continue living alcohol-free. She went from being the life of the party to encouraging others through her own actions to seek a life unhindered by substances. It’s raw, inspiring, and filled with moments that will leave you rethinking what it means to live on your own terms.

Jasmine’s Toolkit:

  • Reflect on what makes you genuinely happy

  • Set boundaries

  • Advocate for yourself

  • Embrace solitude as a way to grow

  • Prioritize mental and emotional health

  • Try new things

  • Try old things you forgot you loved

  • Reach out to community

Staying True To Yourself

In a world that often pressures us to fit in, Jasmine emphasizes the importance of self-authenticity, even when it’s hard. She discusses how partying was initially a way for her to connect with others, but she soon realized it wasn’t aligned with who she truly was. As Jasmine puts it, "I was showing up as someone I thought people wanted me to be. But deep down, I was ignoring my own values, my own boundaries." Her journey became about shedding this image and reconnecting with her true self. By sharing this, Jasmine encourages others to reflect on whether they’re living for others or genuinely honoring themselves.

Being Your Own Advocate

When Ray asked Jasmine what signs were prevalent that would show she was struggling with addiction, she replied that noone would have known because noone saw her drinking as a problem. If anything, she helped them make memories and have fun moments. Jasmine shares the critical lesson of self-advocacy, especially when it comes to mental and emotional well-being. In her own words, "No one’s going to stand up for your peace but you." She discusses moments when she felt judged or misunderstood, especially during her transition from party life to a quieter, more introspective lifestyle. By speaking up and setting firm boundaries, she’s learned to protect her energy and prioritize her needs. By creating her social media profile Soulfully Sober, she was able to then attract other folks who were inspired by her sobriety journey, so much so that they felt they could do it too.

Finding Fulfillment Beyond Partying

Jasmine had to dig deep to understand what truly brought her genuine happiness and fulfillment, and she talks openly about how leaving the party scene opened new doors for self-discovery. She reflects, "I thought the excitement of the party was the best life had to offer, but real joy came when I started asking what *I* actually wanted." With this shift, she found fulfillment in simple pleasures and meaningful connections, like getting up early in the morning to workout or going back to film school to become a film producer. Jasmine’s journey reminds listeners that fulfillment often lies beyond society’s glamorized versions of happiness. True joy, as she discovered, is often quieter, rooted in personal growth, and found by honoring what brings us lasting peace.
